Lucknow: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday faced a huge embarrassment as two of its leaders in Uttar Pradesh- an MP and a MLA – exchanged blows following an argument at a meeting in Sant Kabir Nagar. The video of the incident has gone viral on the social media.
The video, shared by news agency ANI, begins with a verbal spat between BJP MP Sharad Tripathi and MLA Rakesh Singh Baghel. Soon, the argument turns heated and Tripathi takes off his shoe and bashes Singh seven times. In retaliation, Singh gets up from his seat and slaps the MP two to three times before the police and other members present at the spot intervene.
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Rakesh Singh Baghel and his supporters have launched a protest outside the District Magistrate office demanding arrest of BJP MP Rakesh Tripathi with whom Baghel was involved in a brawl earlier in the day.
The incident reportedly happened during a meeting of the District Action Plan Committee at Collectorate.
Taking cognisance of the matter, MN Pandey, UP BJP President, said, “We have taken cognizance of this condemnable incident and both have been summoned to Lucknow. Strict disciplinary action will be taken.”
On the other hand, Tripathi expressed regret over the incidence. “I regret the incident and feel bad about it, what happened was against my normal behaviour. If I am summoned by state chief then will put my point across,” he said.
