New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday took a swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its leaders making controversial remarks on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse.
Taking to Twitter, the Congress chief posted, “I finally got it. The BJP and the RSS… Are not God-Ke Lovers. They are God-Se Lovers.”

The controversy over Nathuram Godse has been in the news for a couple of days. The same flared up even more on Wednesday as BJP’s Bhopal Lok Sabha candidate and Malegaon blast accused Pragya Singh Thakur hailed him as a ‘deshbhakt’.
“Nathuram Godse was a ‘deshbhakt’, is a ‘deshbhakt’ and will remain a ‘deshbhakt’. People calling him a terrorist should instead look within, such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections,” she had said. However, she apologised for her statement as the party distanced itself from her and also after facing backlash from the opposition.
Issuing an apology, she said, “It was my personal opinion remark. My intention was not to hurt anyone’s sentiments. If I’ve hurt anyone I do apologise. What Gandhi Ji has done for the country cannot be forgotten. My statement has been twisted by the media.”
Meanwhile, BJP’s MP from Karnataka Nalin Kumar Kateel compared Godse with former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi. “Godse killed one, Kasab killed 72, Rajiv Gandhi killed 17,000. You judge who is more cruel in this??” Kateel tweeted on Thursday, equating Godse, 26/11 Mumbai terror attack convict Ajmal Kasab and Rajiv Gandhi.
This was not it as the Union minister Anantkumar Hegde also found himself in the news with a purported tweet justifying Godse’s action. However, later the minister claimed his account was hacked.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in first reaction to Pragya Singh Thakur‘s remark on Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse, slammed Pragya Singh Thakur for her statement, saying that he ‘will never forgive her for insulting Bapu’.
“Gandhiji ya Godse ke baare mein jo bayaan diye gaye hain wo bahut kharaab hain aur samaaj ke liye bahut galat hain. Ye alag baat hai ki unhone maafi maang li, lekin main unhe mann se kabhi maaf nahi kar paunga (Statements given by Gandhiji and Godse are wrong. Though, she has apologised, but I will never be able to forgive her),” PM Modi was quoted as saying on the official Twitter handle of the BJP.
