BJP Spokesperson Struggles to Sing Vande Mataram on TV, Gets Trolled

Mumbai, Oct 31: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson was trolled on social media after he struggled and failed to sing Vande Mataram - the famous poem from Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay's Anandamath - during a heated debate on a news channel. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media with netizens questioning BJP's push to make the singing of Vande Mataram mandatory at various places when their own man can't recite it.

At a debate on Zee Salaam, BJP spokesperson Navin Kumar Singh was challenged to sing Vande Mataram to prove his patriotism by All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) member Mufti Ejaz Arshad Qasmi. After initial hesitation, Singh agreed to sing on the condition that Qasmi will join him. He then attempted to sing/read the lyrics of the song from his phone and ended up pronouncing most of the words terribly wrong.

Social media was flooded with tweets taking a dig at the BJP after Navin Kumar Singh couldn't sing Vande Mataram. "Nationalist party BJP's spoxman (sic) failed patriotism test, couldn't sing 'Vande Mataram' even while reading from his mobile," read a post from a Twitter handle. "Hilarious. BJP spokes screaming at a person to sing Vande Mataram, (he himself has no idea how it goes)," another tweet read.

This is not the first time when a BJP member was unable to sing Vande Mataram on the national television. Earlier, BJP leader and UP Minister of State for Minority Welfare, Baldev Singh Aulakh was asked to sing Vande Mataram during a debate. Aulakh tried to parry the request made by the anchor and couldn't sing the song.
