BMC civic elections 2017 Exit Poll Results: BJP neck and neck with Shiv Sena

The poll predicts almost similar seats for the erstwhile partners.

Mumbai, Feb 21: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is giving a tough fight to Shiv Sena in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, the exit poll by Axis-My India for India Today predicted after the polling got over on Tuesday.

According to the exit poll, the Shiv Sena may get around 86-90 seats, whereas the BJP may get around 80-88 seats. Shivsena may get 32% votes, whereas the BJP may also get 32% votes. The Congress party may get 30-34 seats with a vote share of 16%. The NCP may be reduced to 3-6 seats. The MNS may get 5-7 seats. The SP may get 2-4 seats.

If these election results come true, it would be a cause of celebration for the Bharatiya Janata Party, whereas the Shiv Sena will not be much happy with results.

The Shiv Sena-BJP coalition had won 107 seats out of the total 227 seats. The Shiv Sena had won 75 seats in the last election, whereas the BJP had won 31 seats. They were ruling the richest civic body. However, just before the elections, the Shiv Sena ended the alliance over the seat-sharing discord. If the exit poll comes true, the BJP’s number of seats will shoot up astronomically and the advantage of coming out of the alliance will go to them. Though the Shiv Sena’s seat number will also go up, but a bigger influence of the BJP would mean their influence will get undermined.
