Guwahati, October 18: Posters have been put up in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) areas of Assam asking Bodo girls not to wear jeans. The posters have been allegedly issued by the All Bodo Students’ Union (Absu) asking Bodo girls to wear ‘dokhona’, their traditional attire, have raised may eyebrows. Absu president Pramod Boro said, “I don’t buy the idea of banning jeans for Bodo girls. Initial probe revealed that some members of Absu’s Subankata unit hanged the posters in certain pockets. Defending girls over their attire, a leader of a Bodo organisation said, “Bodo women have a high regard for their traditional attire. Usually, they attend social and cultural events wearing the dokhona. Even in many educational institutions, Bodo girls attend classes in traditional attire.

The incident has raised concern among locals.
