As per reports, a cordon and search operation in Reban area of the south Kashmir district on Monday morning was launched by security forces after receiving specific information about the presence of militants there. An official told PTI that the operation turned into an encounter after the militants fired upon a search party of the forces, who retaliated strongly and gunned down the terrorists.

“Two terrorists were neutralised in this operation. The bodies have been recovered and the identification of those bodies is yet to be done. The firing, however, has stopped and search operation is continuing,” an official said.

During the search operation, ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.

“Weapons and warlike stores recovered. Operation in progress.” Army said in a brief statement.

The encounter is still underway and the identities of the militants are yet to be ascertained.
