New Delhi, Jan 3: It is a news-heavy day as triple talaq will be introduced in Rajya Sabha. Also, Maharashtra Bandh, which was called in protest of violence in Pune, has affected the normal life in Mumbai and other cities of the state.
The Bandh in Maharashtra has hit Mumbai the hardest. Daily commuters were seen waiting as lesser auto-rickshaws were plying on road. Other means of transport are also not there. Protesters tried stopping trains at Virar and Thane railway stations. While the RPF and GRP officials cleared the Thane railway station, some protests could be seen at Virar. The impact of the Dalit protests can be seen at Nagpur. Although school and colleges have remained open, parents are not sending their wards due to less means of transportation. Some flyers missed their flight due to the bandh. A commuter told Zee News that some people stopped his auto-rickshaw and didn’t let him reach the airport– he missed his flight. Meanwhile, RSS condemned the caste violence in Pune, Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra calling it painful.
The Central government will table the contentious triple talaq bill in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Government wanted to introduce the bill on Tuesday, but deferred as it needs consensus with the opposition for smooth passage of the bill. The government sent the bill to the Select Committee.
