Gangster Chhota Rajan Convicted: Mumbai: A Mumbai court on Thursday has convicted gangster Chhota Rajan in the 2001 murder case of Mumbai hotelier named Jaya Shetty. Notably, the gangster is currently in jail. A Mumbai court held gangster Chhota Rajan guilty for the killing of hotelier Jaya Shetty in 2001 case. The court will likely pronounce the quantum of sentence later in the day. A Maharashtra Control Of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) special judge AM Patil convicted Rajan.

Jaya Shetty?

Jaya Shetty, once the proud owner of Mumbai’s Golden Crown hotel, started receiving threats from the notorious Chhota Rajan gang. He experienced a grim demise when two gang members struck him down in his own establishment on the 4th of May, 2001. In a shocking turn of events, his state-provided security was pulled away just a couple of months prior to his untimely death.

Chhota Rajan was shipped off to India from Indonesia in October 2015, and he’s now seeing out life behind bars in Tihar Jail, Delhi. As per a recap by The Times of India, two assailants drove the fatal incident with Jaya Shetty.
However, a quick thinking hotel manager and an employee took a stand and nabbed one of the criminals after a footrace.

Chhota Rajan

Rajan, better known as Chhota Rajan or his real name, Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, became a hot topic last year when he decided to sue filmmaker Hansal Mehta and the proprietors of Matchbox Shots LLP. The bone of contention was their web series ‘Scoop’. Rajan claimed they had used his likeness and voice without asking for his approval, a fact he got to know from his wife after she viewed the series trailer. He claimed that this unauthorized act infringed on his riparian rights as there was no prior consultative agreement.
