The west Bengal government under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee has faced strong criticisms due to their questionable management of a rape-murder case, which subsequently led to destruction at RG Kar Hospital. It was puzzling for the Supreme Court as to why the state failed to prevent the chaos at the hospital.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday has alleged in the Supreme Court that the attempts were made to cover up the case of the 31-year-old post-graduate female trainee doctor by the local police as the crime scene at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was altered by the time the central agency took over the investigation.
Banerjee leveled accusations at both the BJP and Left parties, asserting they were responsible for the harm inflicted at RG Kar Hospital. She further raised suspicions about their attempt to meddle with the evidence in the rape case. Banerjee insisted the unwelcome teaming up of the Left and BJP was to spur chaos across Bengal.
The rape and subsequent murder of a junior doctor has catalyzed nation-rattling protests. The young doctor, who suffered grievous injuries, was found lifeless in a seminar hall of the hospital’s chest department the morning of August 9th. A civic volunteer from the Kolkata Police was linked to this horrific act and taken into custody a day after the discovery. In a vital turn of events, the Calcutta High Court transferred the case from local police to the Central Bureau of Investigation by August 13, leading to the commencement of a new investigation on August 14.
