Amidst the ongoing heatwave, a massive fire has broken out in different forest areas of Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir.

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing heatwave, a massive fire has broken out in different forest areas of Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir.

Huge plumes of smoke were visible even from far away. A fire had broken out in the forest belt in Reasi district on Thursday which erupted in the Marhi area of the district and spread to several acres of land destroying trees and other forest materials.

On April 18, the Indian Army had averted a major fire incident in the Kotranka Market of Rajouri district.

PRO Defence Jammu Lt Col Devender Anand said, “Today at around 8.50am, Indian Army at Samote received an SOS call from an ex-serviceman (ESM), Naib Sub Kabir Khan running an electrical shop in Kotranka Market, about a massive fire incident near Sharma Sweet and Ice Cream Shop at Kotranka Market.”

“Acting swiftly, the firefighting team from the Army Unit was rushed to the incident site along with requisite equipment and water bowser. The Indian Army Fire Fighting Team quickly analysed the situation and were able to efficiently contain the fire along with the locals and GREF personnel. Timely and coordinated action of all present helped in containing the fire and prevented its spread to nearby shops thus avoiding a major catastrophe,” he said.
