Lucknow, Feb 14: Addressing a political rally in Kanpur, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday announced that her party will not forge an alliance with Bharatiya Janta Party post elections. She said that her party would choose to sit in opposition rather than extending support to BJP. The rumours aired by the BJP only reflects its nervousness ahead of voting on Wednesday. However, she appeared confident about forming a majority government in the Uttar Pradesh. She also denied chances of forming a government with the help of Samajwadi Party. She alleged that she was attacked fatally in 1995 on the directives of former chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Terming the Samajwadi Party rule as ”corrupt, anarchic and criminal”, she alleged that SP government failed to provide security to women and minorities in the state. She claimed that around 500 incidents of low communal intensity took place during five years rule of Samajwadi Party. She alleged that Muslims were put constantly under insecurity and the lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq was a testimony to it. She also mentioned about the murder of Superintendent of Police Zia-ul- Haq in Gonda.
Charging on changing names of schemes commenced during her rule, she alleged that ‘Mahamaya Garib Aarthik Yojana’ has been continued as Samajwadi Pension Yojana. She argued that Samajwadi Party will be weakened as its vote bank will be divided into two factions, Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav. Thus, any voting to Samajwadi Party will only strengthen BJP. Considering the huge strength of Muslim voters in Western Uttar Pradesh, she centred her speech on issues affecting Muslims in the region. She said that Bharatiya Janta Party-led National Democratic Alliance government failed to implement the recommendations of Sachchar Committee. She alleged that Bharatiya Janta Party government is trying to change the minority status of Aligarh Muslim University. She affirmed that her party is opposed to Triple Talaq revision.
She also alleged that caste based atrocities have been on the rise after BJP came to power in the centre in 2014. She was referring to the thrashing of Dalits in Una in Gujarat. She also mentioned the suicide of research scholar Rohith Vemula. Launching a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, She said that the decision of demonetisation left numerous people unemployed. She also refuted PM’s claim that both parties were protecting each other in Corruption cases. She claimed that she ordered the inquiry in Police recruitment scam.
Uttar Pradesh will go to polls in a seven-phased election. The voting for the assembly elections will conclude on March 8. The results of the assembly elections will be announced on March 11.
