Jadavpur, May 6: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, whose controversial movie Buddha in a Traffic Jam is about to hit the silver screen, visited Jadavpur University on Friday to promote his upcoming feature. Agnihotri faced massive protest inside the campus by leftist students, who raised slogans against him for highlighting Indian communists in poor light in his forthcoming film. The director was reportedly gheraoed by the students who raised slogans against the movie, and accused Agnihotri of working on the RSS’ agenda.

Students aligned to All India Students Association (AISA), Democratic Front of India (DFI) and Student Federation of India (SFI) staged a massive protest against Agnihotri. He was scheduled to screen the movie inside the campus today, ahead of its official release. However, the screening was cancelled due to the objection raised by students. Buddha in a traffic Jam is scheduled to release on May 13. As per the teasers available through the trailer, the movie has shown leftist intellectuals as ones who propagate the ideology of Naxalism in overt and covert manner. The movie attempts to divert the attention of people towards the issue of Naxalism, which successive Indian governments have failed to solve.

Agnihotri faced similar kind of protests in Jawaharlal Nehru University, the citadel of leftist movement in India, where he dared to release the trailer of his movie. Buddha in a traffic jam features prominent Anupam Kher in the lead role. Since Kher is known for his right-wing leanings and association with BJP and RSS, critics have already opined that the movie would be one-sided, and demonize Marxists in a disproportionate manner. Here is the trailer of the movie:
