Srinagar, October 9: An officer of the Indian Army was killed in a terrorist attack in Budgam district in the Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday night. The attack took place when a patrol party was returning to its base. As per military officials, the slain official was identified as Subedar Raj Kumar. He was stationed as a junior commissioned officer (JCO) in 24 Punjab Regiment.

The military officials added although Kumar sustained multiple bullet injuries, he retaliated valiantly. Later he succumbed to injuries in the Hospital. Kumar was born on March 9, 1970 in the Kangda district in Himachal Pradesh. He had joined the armed forces in 1990.

In another encounter, security forces gunned down the operational head of banned organisation Jaish-e-Mohammad, Khalid. The encounter between terrorists and security forces took place in Baramulla’s Ladoora area.

Security forces cordoned off the area as soon as information was received about a few militants hiding in the area. A search operation was launched. The search party was fired upon by militants who were hiding inside a house in the village.
