New Delhi, February 24: The Bhartiya Janata Party government at the Centre who are facing huge criticism from leaders of Opposition over arrest of JNU student union president Kanhaiya Kumar are ready to launch counter attack in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Day 2 of Parliament’s Budget session.
On Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi said to the BJP lawmaker’s to debate ‘aggressively’ at the session over JNU controversy which will be the centre of discussion today.
The leaders of Opposition are united to target the government over the arrest of JNU students who are being charged with sedition in an event organised by them where anti-India slogans were raised. Read Also: (JNU row: Umar Khalid, Anirban Bhattacharya questioned for 5 hours after surrendering)
PM Modi on Tuesday after meeting the top leaders of BJP reportedly said, “The government is working fine and has a lot to show”. PM Modi urged his party members to debate and contest aggressively as the opposition is raking up issues like JNU.
Bhartiya Janata Party chief Amit Shah and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley were also present at the meeting. Arun Jaitley, a noted lawyer will cover the sedition law and other legal aspects of JNU controversy.
Dalit scholar Rohit Vermula’s suicide case will also be discuss today but the NDA government has decided to not to take aggressive stand as it will hurt all parties in the alliance with the BJP. Pathankot attack and issues related to the attack will also be discussed at the Upper House where the Opposition is likely to corner the NDA government.
Meanwhile the Opposition has promised to co-operate with the Rajya Sabha proceedings and will not disrupt the session. Last year monsoon and winter session were washed out with the opposition stalled both Upper and Lower House of the Parliament on various issues.
