Budget Session 2017 LIVE news updates: On day 2 of the Budget Session of Parliament, the Union Budget 2017 is scheduled to be tabled. However, there is no clarity on whether the Budget will be presented or delayed by a day. This comes after the death of sitting IUML MP E Ahamed.

Ahamed died after suffering a cardiac arrest during President Pranab Mukherjee’s joint address to Parliament on Tuesday. Ahamed collapsed during the President’s address and was rushed to the hospital, where he was put on life support. On Wednesday morning at 2:15 am, Ahamed was declared dead by the RML Hospital.

MoS Finance Santosh Gangwar has said that a delay is highly likely. Speaking to the media on Wednesday morning, Gangwar said, “It is basic protocol that when a sitting member dies, Parliament is adjourned for the day. It is highly likely that Budget 2017 will be presented on February 2, but a final decision is to be taken.”

While the protocol says the House must be adjourned for the day, meetings and consultations are on to take a final call. As being reported by TC channels, government sources also say that the Budget may be delayed by a day. The government will meet Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan at 10 am. Mahajan will take a final call on whether the House should be adjourned.

Reports say that the government may have to go with the protocol as the Opposition parties are demanding that the House be adjourned after an Obit reference to Ahamed.

Meanwhile, when the government is in fix over whether the budget would be presented today or not, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reached the Finance Ministry with the budget. He has left for the Parliament but the final confirmation hasn’t been rolled out yet. Postponement of the budget is however a security concern.
