Srinagar, July 14: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah has been critical of the way Mehbooba Mufti-led PDP-BJP coalition handled the situation after Hijbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter. For a change, the National Conference leader on Wednesday [CHECK] was all praise for the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As number of people injured in the police action against the unruly crowd following the violence in the Kashmir valley after the killing of Burhan Wani, the Jammu and Kashmir government sought help from the centre to treat the injured – specially those with serious eye injures from pellets.
Apart from lack of medicines and other facilities, doctor found it difficult to handle the number of patients who were pouring in after the protests in the state. To make matter worse, curfew brought Srinagar to a standstill, making it difficult to get even the basic goods handy. With all medical shops shut, patients could not even buy eye drops or any other drugs. It was then former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah tweeted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking help in form of doctors bring the situation under control. In a series of tweets to Modi, Abdullah asked him to send eye and trauma specialists to the valley.

The injured include SF persons & young boys who risk losing their sight forever. This is the time to reach out with a healing touch.

Union health minister JP Nadda directed a three-member high-level team of eye specialists from AIIMS in New Delhi to assist doctors in the ongoing operations. Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also spoke to Nadda on Wednesday morning requesting him to send a team of specialists. After it was confirmed that centre is dispatching a team of AIIMS doctors to Srinagar to help the local doctors treat patients with serious eye injuries, Abdullah again took to twitter to thank the Prime Minister for the swift action.

The injured also include security forces and young boys who are at the risk of losing their eye sight forever. Hundreds have been badly injured in the clashes between locals and security forces during the protests that took place across South Kashmir in the wake of the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani, killed by the forces on July 8.
Confirming the high number of injured with serious eye injuries, India.com reporter Aamir Salati said, “I went to a Anantnag hospital yesterday, the doctors said due to lack of infrastructure and staff, injured are mostly referred to Srinagar. Most of them have lost eye sight and same is feared for others.”
The state government is also planning to shift patients out of the state if super-specialised care is required.
