Mumbai: Two girls, both 17-year-olds jumped to their deaths, after clicking a selfie near the well and making it their WhatsApp displays. The incident took place in Aarey colony in Mumbai. Media reports confirmed that one of the girls was a Class 12th students while the other was an SSC dropout. The deceased belonged to a tribal hamlet in Aarey, and ran away from their homes on Tuesday without telling anybody in the family. Apparently, a boy from their community had seen them fleeing but the girls requested him to keep mum. Meanwhile, the matter is being investigated and police are ascertaining if it actually was the case of a suicide. Further, a report of accidental death report has also been lodged.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, residents urged the authorities to cover the well as it has become a hotspot of suicide. An accidental death report has been filed in the case.
In another incident which took place last year, one student was killed when he fell down from a running train trying to take a selfie, while two of his friends were run over and killed by another train when they were searching for him in the tracks in Howrah district, GRP sources said. A group of students were taking selfies near the door of an EMU train when suddenly one of them fell down from it and was killed between Liluah and Belur railway stations, Government Railway Police (GRP) sources said.
