By-election to Tura Lok Sabha seat, seven assembly constituencies begin

The assembly constituencies are Godda and Panki in Jharkhand, Talala in Gujarat, Jangipur and Bilari in Uttar Pradesh, Gharadongri in Madhya Pradesh and Palair in Telangana.

By-election to Tura Lok Sabha seat, seven assembly constituencies begin

New Delhi, May 16: The by-election to Tura Parliamentary constituency in Meghalaya and seven assembly constituencies spread over five states began on Monday.The assembly constituencies are Godda and Panki in Jharkhand, Talala in Gujarat, Jangipur and Bilari in Uttar Pradesh, Gharadongri in Madhya Pradesh and Palair in Telangana.(Also Read: Puducherry Assembly Elections 2016: Polling begins with 344 candidates in fray)

The Election commission deferred the by-polls in Anantnag assembly seat in Jammu and Kashmir and Kanubari seat in Arunachal Pradesh.The Election Commission earlier postponed the by-poll to the Anantnag assembly seat after the Mehbooba Mufti-led Jammu and Kashmir Government raised concerns over the law and order situation.

The enforcement of Model Code of Conduct in relation to the by-election in Kanubari seat in Arunachal Pradesh would remain in abeyance until further direction by the Election Commission.The counting of votes would take place on Thursday. Tura Lok Sabha seat is vacant due to death of Sitting MP and former Speaker P. A. Sangma.
