Cash for symbol: TTV Dinakaran refutes bribery charge, says he does not know any middleman

Chennai, April 17: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) – Amma Deputy General Secretary and VK Sasikala’s nephew TTV Dinakaran has denied having offered a bribe to anyone for the ‘two leaves’ symbol of the party. Dinakaran has said that he does not know of any middleman. “I will legally face if any summon comes to me from Delhi Police. I don’t know anybody by this name, Sukesh Chandrasekhar (alleged middleman). I haven’t bribed anyone for anything,” Dinakaran said on Monday.

Dinakaran’s comments came after the Delhi Police Crime Branch named him as an accused in the cash for symbol case. The Delhi Police Crime Branch has filed an FIR against Dinakaran for allegedly paying bribe for getting the ‘two leaves’ symbol for the RK Nagar bypoll. The FIR says that Dinakaran allegedly offered up to Rs 60 crore bribe to a middleman, Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who assured him of the two leaves symbol being given to the Sasikala faction.

According to reports, Dinakaran has been named accused along with Sukesh in the bribery case and the police say that the deal was struck in a hotel in Delhi. The FIR has been filed against TTV Dinakaran under sec IPC 170 and 120b, 8 PoC by Delhi Police crime branch for allegedly offering bribe for the two leaves symbol.

The FIR came after Rs 1.3 crore were seized from the hotel. Reports say that luxury cars including BMW and Mercedes have been seized from Sukesh who has been arrested by the Delhi Police. Dinakaran may also be reportedly called for questioning by the police.

THe Opposition is now all guns blazing against the AIADMK-Amma, demanding strict action. The DMK, the Sasikala Pushpa faction and the O Panneerselvam faction have come out against Dinakaran and say that the leader must be expelled from the party.
This is another major setback for the Sasikala faction of the AIADMK days after Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar was named in the Election Commission’s statement on cancelling the RK Nagar bypoll citing bribery of voters and illegal practices by parties and candidates. Vijayabaskar has also been summoned by the Income Tax department for questioning on Monday after raids were carried out across Chennai in connection with cash for votes complaints.
The Income Tax searches on the premises of an associate of Vijayabaskar had reportedly revealed routing of Rs 89 crore for distribution among voters for the RK Nagar Assembly bypoll, which was scheduled for April 12, but was later cancelled by the Election Commission following the raids.
