New Delhi, May 16: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) top leader Piyush Goyal hit back at Chidambaram and son Karti saying that Congress is just nervous after the CBI raids after the party called the raids a political vendetta. Addressing the media, Piyush Goyal said that the Modi government is just focussed on the developmental work in the country and doesn’t interfere in the law. “Law is taking its course and the Congress party is nervous. “It is time for Chidambaram to answer,” said Goyal addressing the media. “We never interfere in the law. People are happy with what Narendra Modi has been doing for the country and the Congress party just needs a reason to accuse the government,” he aded. “In 3 yrs,we’ve given nation honest scam free govt,decisive leader,pro poor thrust on governance&fastest growing large economy,” said Goyal. Reacting to the CBI raids, the Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala hit out at BJP saying that they (Congress and Chidambaram) are not afraid of these empty threats. Veteran Congress leader KR Ramasamy also called the raids politically motivated and asserted that Chidambaram has done nothing wrong. “FIPB approval is granted in hundreds of cases. The five Secretaries who constitute the FIPB, the officials of the FIPB Secretariat and the competent authority in each case are the public officials. There is no allegation against any of them. There is no allegation against me,” he said in a statement. Earlier in the day, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday raided carried out raids at the residences of former finance minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti Cidambaram in connection with alleged undue favours given by the former UPA government to a media house. The CBI conducted raids at 8 locations in Chennai and 2 in Delhi. As per the reports, a total of 16 locations are being raided in Mumbai, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai. The raids were reportedly conducted after an FIR was filed against Karti Chidambram, Indrani and Peter Mukerjea in 2007/2008 FIPB approval for INX Media. The FIR said that the Foreign Investment Promotion Board cleared the deal at a lower value at the behest of Karti Chidambaram. P Chidambaram is being probed as he was the then finance minister.
Reacting to the raids, Chidambaram said that the BJP government has been using the CBI to silence him. “Government by using CBI and other agencies is targeting my son and his friends. Government wants to silence my voice. Government wants to stop me from writing, as it has tried to with leaders of Opposition parties, journalists, columnists, NGOs and civil society. Every case was processed according to law and approval granted or refused accordance with FIPB recommendations consisting of 5 GOI Secretaries,” Chidambaram said.
