New Delhi, April 1: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has suspended an official with immediate effect for lax supervision in examination centre (0859) following the leak of Class Xth and XIIth papers, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) said on Sunday. “On the direction of HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar to take swift action against culprits, the Board has suspended K S Rana, the official found lax in supervising examination centre (0859) with immediate effect. The Union Education Secretary further stated,”Consequent to arrest of two teachers from Mother Khajani Convent School, Mungeshpur, Delhi, and a coaching institute Head, Tauquir by Delhi Police, for colluding to leak the Class 12 economics Paper and probe done by the CBSE, a CBSE personnel, KS Rana, found lax in supervision.” Also Read - Centre to set up pre-school educational units: Swarup
Earlier in the day, Delhi’s Karkardooma court sent all three accused arrested in the paper leak case to two day police custody. Speaking to ANI, Delhi Police Joint Commissioner of Police (CP) Crime Branch said, “Two teachers and a tutor were arrested. Police custody remand of all the three has been taken, they will be questioned.”
The two accused teachers identified as Rishabh and Rohit work at a private school in Delhi while the third accused Touqeer is a coaching centre tutor. According to the police, Rishabh and Rohit passed the Economics question paper of Class XII to Touqeer, who later circulated the same among the students.
The teachers reportedly opened the paper 30 minutes before the exam, clicked the picture and forwarded the same to the coaching owner. They were arrested by the Delhi Police’s Crime Branch Cell on Sunday.
On March 28, the CBSE had announced the cancellation of the Class XII Economics and Class X Mathematics papers following reports of leaks. The board said that the Class 12 economics paper exam would be held again on April 25 acros the country while re-examination for class 10 maths paper would be held only in Delhi, NCR and Haryana, “if at all”, in July.
