Chandigarh, June 16: A cab driver was arrested on Saturday for allegedly harassing a woman passenger. The incident came to light when the victim registered a complaint against the accused. Speaking to news agency ANI, a police officer said, “We have registered a complaint, we will take appropriate action against the driver after a thorough investigation.” This is a developing story and more details are awaited.

This is not a single case of cab drivers assaulting women passengers. In May, a woman travelling in a cab in Mumbai alleged that she was molested inside the moving car. The woman in her complaint said that during the journey, the driver was trying to get friendly with her. The driver also forced her to sit in the front passenger seat.

The woman in her complaint claimed that she was planning to confront the driver at the destination, but as the driver kept misbehaving, she confronted him mid-way and got off the cab in Hiranandani from where her friend brought the accused to the police station.

The Powai police registered the case at 9 PM and arrested the 36-year-old accused under sections 354 and 354 (A) (sexual assault) of the Indian Penal Code. He will be produced in Andheri court on Tuesday.
