New Delhi: Even as Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu went about meeting Opposition leaders in the national capital on Thursday, the BJP made light of the exercise. Naidu’s meetings have been seen as his attempt at cobbling together a united Opposition against the BJP-led NDA. However, the saffron party couldn’t be bothered; or at least tried to project that Naidu’s mission didn’t mean much. Taking a dig at Naidu, the BJP said the Andhra leader was indulging in “political tourism”. BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said on Thursday, “He comes to Delhi for political tourism and photo session.” He claimed that Naidu’s attempts at forming the ‘mahagathbandhan’ would collapse as soon as he reached Hyderabad. “Today, by standing with the Congress, Chandrababu has destroyed the legacy of NT Rama Rao. Whereas Rahul Gandhi is so weak that he is looking for support from anyone,” he said. Hussain wasn’t quite off the mark when he claimed Naidu had destroyed NTR’s legacy. After all, the TDP was floated by NTR in the early 80’s to defeat the Congress in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. On Thursday, Naidu had met Rahul, SP patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav and party president Akhilesh Yadav in the national capital. He also met CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury at the Delhi airport and National Conference’s Farooq Abdullah. Last week, he met several Opposition leaders to firm up an anti-BJP alliance ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls., will work with the national party. Naidu has been extremely vocal in his criticism of the BJP-led Centre ever since he parted ways over the special category status for Andhra Pradesh. Last week, he said “everything has collapsed” in the country under the BJP-led regime at the Centre. Talking to reporters in Vishakhapatnam, Naidu targeted the Government over the feud within the CBI which turned murkier with the arrest of a deputy SP in the SIT. “We have a dedicated solar policy but the Government, they messed up everything. It is a dire situation. They are messing (up) everything,” the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief said.
“Today, you see (the) CBI also, they are messing (up things). All institutions you see, everything has collapsed. Never visualised all these things,” Naidu added.
