Chennai, June 11: The Tiruvallur police on Sunday detained seven people, including juveniles, for sexually assaulting a class 10th girl after sedating her with drugs and alcohol. The police have detained seven and are looking for the rest in the sexual assault case. The accused will be arrested and booked under Pocso (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act, a police officer said, adding that the men have been detained to get more information.
The incident was reported when she (the girl) was brought to district superintendent of police. The girl had failed to return home after school and her cell phone number was also found to be switched off. When she didn’t return home until late night, her parents lodged a police complaint. The police launched a hunt and found her stranded at a bus stop.
The police officer said that she had become friendly with one of her classmates who allegedly got her into taking marijuana (ganja) and alcohol. The girl told the police that every time she took drugs and alcohol, her classmate and the other men, aged between 18 to 20 years, sexually abused her. The girl’s parents were summoned and they told the police that she had lately become irregular to school and came home drunk.
She used to fight with her parents when sober and often said that she wanted to move out to stay with friends. The police asked the girl to talk to the accused and force them to meet her at a designated spot. The police have detained seven and are looking for more in connection with the case.
