Mumbai, April 25: Being in jail and out of it are two completely different situations. None other than former Maharashtra deputy chief minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Chhagan Bhujbal knows the fact better. A picture emerging out of the hospital showed a dramatic change in his appearance in just a few days. The picture, that has already gone viral, was clicked on Saturday at the St George’s Hospital, almost six weeks after he was arrested on corruption charges. The jailed leader appears to have lost weight drastically and the flair and flashiness which was trademark for the leader was clearly missing along with the muffler that he used to wear even during the hot and humid Mumbai summers. The first time when he came for the interrogation at the Enforcement Directorate office in Mumbai on March 15, he was seen wearing the muffler. The striking difference is that he didn’t have a beard at that time while he maintained a trimmed, groomed and dyed moustache before his arrest. The 68-year-old leader has been admitted to St George’s hospital since last week after complaining of chest pain. He initially complained of toothache and was scheduled to be taken to the dental hospital, but instead landed in St George’s. The inquiry into the matter is already under way. Arthur Road jail doctor Rahul Ghule has been at the receiving end for allegedly helping Bhujbal out of the jail and get admitted to the hospital.
The NCP leader was arrested on March 15 following an interrogation of 10 hours by the ED. Bhujbal and his relatives are accused of getting kickbacks from several contracts awarded by the government, which included the state government guest house Maharashtra Sadan in New Delhi. Bhujbal though have denied all charges and accused the ruling BJP of hatching a political conspiracy against him.
