66-year-old TS Baba, a scion of the famous Surguja princely estate and leader of Opposition in this BJP-ruled state, is eyeing a third straight term from the Ambikapur seat.
Ambikapur is one of the oldest and largest districts of Chhattisgarh. The city of Ambikapur is named after the Hindu goddess Ambika (Mahamaya) Devi, who is one of the central figures of worship.
The locals in the constituency – where farming is the primary occupation – complain of lack of employment and medical facilities. Also, the issue of wild elephants causing havoc in village areas has led to anger among them.
TS Baba has declared, on affidavit, his property to be worth Rs 500 crore, which is Rs 51 crore less than what he had declared in 2013. That year, it was exactly Rs 551 crore, according to a DNA report.
