Chhattisgarh Assembly Election 2018: Yogi Adityanath Attacks Congress, Says Party Did Politics at Cost of National Security

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday attacked the Congress for promoting Naxalism in poll-bound Chhattisgarh state and said that the grand old party toyed with the national security for their political benefits.

“Congress had promoted Naxalism in this region for their own selfish motives. BJP govt is taking strict measures to combat it which has become a threat to people in this region. Congress toyed with national security for their political benefits,” he said while addressing a rally in Lormi.

Adityanath further said, “Be it Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, north-eastern states or Kashmir, Congress did politics at the cost of national security. But for BJP, national security is the top priority. We never tolerated the threat to national security. No one has the liberty to toy with national security.”

On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also attacked the Congress and had alleged that the party is supporting urban Maoists. He had also said that the party has derailed the development of the region.

Urging the people to vote for the BJP in the upcoming polls, he had said, “I urge the people of Bastar to teach a fitting lesson to the Congress leaders, who on one hand try to shield the urban Maoists, and in Chhattisgarh, they speak about freeing the state from Maoists.”

He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said it is because of the BJP government that people in the state have received houses. “For the 1st time after independence, a PM announced that by 2022 no poor in India will be without a house. Had there not been a BJP govt at the center, people in Chhattisgarh wouldn’t have received the houses which they’re receiving now,” UP CM said.

The first phase on November 12 will see 18 seats of eight Maoist-affected districts go to polls. Of these, 12 are Scheduled Tribe seats while one is a Scheduled Caste-reserved seat. The campaigning for the same will end on Saturday.

The remaining 72 constituencies will go to polls on November 20 and counting of votes will be held on December 11.

A total of 1,291 candidates are in the fray for the two-phased state polls.
