New Delhi, Feb 17: Another incident of apathy towards the poor has come to the fore, where a woman in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh was forced to donate her son’s body to Jagdalpur Medical College as she had no money to transport his 21-year-old son’s mortal remains back to the village or to perform his last rites. The in-charge of the medical college mortuary, Mangal Singh also claimed that the family was very poor and had no money to perform last rites. The deceased identified as Baaman was reportedly hit by an unidentified vehicle on Monday. He was taken to hospital immediately but the doctors failed to save his life. He passed away on February 15.
As soon the incident came to light, the Congress party hit out at Raman Singh government and termed the incident inhumane.
Reacting over the matter, BJP’s spokersperson Sanjay Srivastava said that if this has actually happened, then it is a serious and sensitive matter. “This whole case should be investigated,” Srivastava added.
