Aurangabad, Apr 17: State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) Ratnakar Gaikwad on Monday was attacked by members belonging to a political faction on the belief that the Ambedkar Bhavan of Dadar was demolished on his orders. Reports suggest that the members that thrashed Gaikwad belonged to the Bharatiya Republican Party (BRP), founded by Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. According to reports, around 2 pm, few BRP party workers attacked Gaikwad in Subhedari guest house of Aurangabad. Ratnakar Gaikwad came into controversies after the demolition of Ambedkar Bhawan based in Dadar in June 2016. While Gaikwad has previously stated that the 72-year old Ambedkar Bhawan was an “old dilapidated structure” and the building was demolished after a portion of the structure had collapsed, members of BRP have alleged that the building was demolished for the construction of a 17-floor building.
Gaikwad had previously opposed Prakash and Anandraj Ambedkar and had said that they are known for ‘gundagiri’. In an interview of Firstpost, Gaikwad had said, “The Ambedkar brothers (Prakash, Anandraj) are known for ‘gundagiri’. I want to fulfil the wish of Dr Ambedkar that none of his family members would be entitled to the trust. They want to grab the land and I will not tolerate this.”
While Anandraj Ambedkar has called the attack on Gaikwad as an “unfortunate incident”, Prakash Ambedkar did not comment on the incident.
