At least three people were killed after a cloudburst hit Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district today. Several houses were damaged, and at least five people are still missing. Ramban is about 136 km from Srinagar. The region has seen heavy rainfall over the past few days, causing floods and damaging major roads. The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been badly affected, stopping traffic completely.

Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma told ANI that many roads were damaged due to the rain. “The NH-44 is closed but may reopen by this evening or tomorrow morning,” he said.

Speaking about the situation in Poonch, Sharma said the rains caused serious damage there too. “I visited Mughal Road myself. We are clearing the obstacles and have given all necessary instructions. By this evening, things should improve. Mughal Road is open, and vehicles carrying essential goods are allowed to pass,” he added.

For Saturday and Sunday, an orange alert has been sounded for Poonch, Kishtwar, Jammu, Ramban, and Udhampur, signaling a chance of heavier rainfall in these areas.

Authorities have urged people living in vulnerable areas to stay alert, as the chances of landslides, flash floods, and road blockages remain high. Emergency teams have been sent to the affected districts, and relief and rescue operations are currently in progress.

Seven feared dead in landslide in J-K’s Reasi

Seven members of a family are feared dead after a landslide flattened their house in a remote village in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir early on Saturday. Heavy rains in the Badder village of Mahore triggered the landslide. A rescue operation is underway to trace the missing family, they said.

According to officials, the owner of the house, Nazir Ahmad, his wife and five minor sons are missing and are feared dead.

Over 36 people lost their lives in rain-related incidents

This latest disaster adds to a series of destructive events in Jammu and Kashmir this month, where heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides have already caused widespread damage. Several districts in the Jammu region have suffered massive devastation, with official figures confirming that more than 36 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents so far.

In Reasi and Doda districts alone, at least nine people have died as heavy rainfall triggered multiple landslides, swollen rivers, and flood-like conditions that swept through several villages.

Over the past week, districts such as Jammu, Samba, and Kathua have also seen severe damage to homes, property, and infrastructure.
