Mumbai and Pune is a vital connection used by thousands of motorists everyday. Those who prefer making the journey on a weekend basis to meet family and friends are plenty but there is also a high number of daily commuters on the extremely important Mumbai-Pune highway.
There are reports of a cloudburst over a portion of this important link between the two cities in Maharashtra. The distance between the two major cities in the state is roughly 150 kilometres and 93 kilometres of that way is the six lane concrete highway. Just over a month ago, there were rumours that the road lifeline between Mumbai and Pune was disrupted due to landslides but it turned out to be untrue.
Any stoppage in traffic creates a backlog of several hours. The road has tolls on the way to maintain the quality though it has deteriorated in recent years from it’s former glory when it was first opened 15 years ago in 2000 with a few sections opened at first. The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is named Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai Pune Expressway. We await information from our sources but we know for a fact from commuters who travelled from Mumbai to Pune today that the road was operational with a whiff of rain about six hours ago.
