Here it is! Coldplay released the video for their latest song, “Hymn for the Weekend,” and it is delightful.
Part of their upcoming album, “A Head Full of Dreams,” the tunes and lyrics of this song are insanely catchy—you’ll be bobbing your heading instantly. The video features some great scenes shot in Mumbai during the band’s visit last year. It highlights some of the city’s best sights, including taxi rides, the festival of Holi, the sacred Banganga and boys taking a dip in it, as well as crowded and bustling streets.
Another outstanding highlight is just the various mix of sounds that really put you in the setting of the video–bells of a temple and unstoppable honking. The best part? You get to see Beyoncé, who lent her voice to the song, in a never-seen-before avatar: decked out in traditional Indian wear—with a sari, bindi, jewelery, the works—and she looks stunning! She plays a Bollywood star, Rani; and honestly, wouldn’t that be fun to watch in real life?

However, the news of this video started making rounds because it was announced that Bollywood’s very own style icon, Sonam Kapoor, has shot scenes for it. Indian film stars have forayed into Hollywood over the last few months like never before. Priyanka Chopra has her ABC show “Quantico”, Deepika Padukone is starring in “xXx: The Return of Xander Cage” opposite Vin Diesel, and Dhanush will star in “The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Cupboard” alongside Uma Thurman. Hearing that Kapoor will join this league was exciting for fans of her and also the band.

Unfortunately for us, the actress is there in this video for three very brief scenes. When you least expect it (because the song is almost over), Kapoor floats in—looking gorgeous, of course—running around and then staring at the sky. In the next scene she throws flowers into the air, and then that’s it.

Kapoor is dressed in a simple blue and pink ghagra-choli with classic jewelery, such as her nose ring and long earring,s making her look beautiful and ethnic. Her sister, Rhea Kapoor, conceptualized this look for her. It is because she looks so great that is equally disappointing to see her for just a few seconds. While it is a feather in the cap for the “Neerja” star, we would have loved to see more of her.
Kapoor, who is a self-proclaimed fan of the band’s music, sounded excited to be part of this project.
“It’s a great concept and I had a lot of fun shooting or it,” she said.
She shot for the video—which is directed by Ben More—in one day, last October, at Golfa Devi Temple in Worli, Mumbai and the Vasai Fort.
