New Delhi, July 3: In yet another setback for Congress party, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday launched a scathing attack saying that the Congress alone was “responsible for the current mess” in the Opposition. The JD(U) chief while speaking with an ally at the state executive meeting of his party reportedly said, “The idea of “Sangh-mukt Bharat” cannot fructify without taking all Opposition parties into confidence. The Congress alone is to blame for the current mess…”
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his party have been facing allegations of “breaking opposition unity” over the Presidential elections. While addressing the rally in Patna, Nitish Kumar, without naming the Congress, said that the party and not he was in the habit of changing ideology and made it clear that he would not toe the Congress line.
Nitish Kumar who addressed his party workers was quoted by The Indian Express where he said, “Due to Congress we were unable to form an alliance in Uttar Pradesh, because of Congress we could not have an alliance in Assam, and the Congress did not take us into confidence during the presidential polls also.”
The criticism by Nitish Kumar came in the backdrop of veiled attack carried out by Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Bihar CM who said, “people with one principle make one decision and those having multiple principles make different decisions”. Some reports suggest that Nitish Kumar is upset with the remarks.
The JD(U) was the first to come in the support of National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind, the former Bihar governor. Some reports suggest that the Sunday’s meeting had been called with a “special objective” of sending across a “message of displeasure” to the Congress.
During the meeting, some reports suggest that Nitish Kumar did not refer to the BJP or Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his policies. He said, “I do not follow anyone, I follow my policies. Even when I was part of the NDA, I took strong initiatives for the welfare of minorities…,” said Kumar.
Kumar also clarified that JD(U) is a small regional party and is not in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections race. Speaking about the “Grand Alliance” in his state, Nitish Kumar said that his party was committed to the alliance “till the last moments”.
