However, this is not the first time the Opposition has accused the poll panel of being partial towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Last year, during Gujarat Assembly polls, the grand party had termed the EC a ‘captive puppet’ of the BJP.
“EC has given up on all of its Constitutional responsibility and became a BJP puppet. Modi’s actions show he wants to break all democratic values to remain in power in the state,” the Congress party had said in an unprecedented attack on the poll panel, last year. The Congress party was also miffed with the poll body for not issuing a notice to Prime Minister Modi.
