New Delhi: Days after Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Ram Kadam courted controversy after a video of him allegedly promising to kidnap women went viral on social media, a former Maharashtra minister on Friday announced a reward for anyone who “cuts off the tongue” of the BJP lawmaker.
“I am announcing a Rs 5-lakh reward for anyone who chops off BJP MLA Ram Kadam’s tongue. I strongly condemn him saying girls should be abducted,” Former Maharashtra minister and Congress leader Subodh Savji said.
On Thursday, ABVP had asked the BJP to take strict action against him over his controversial remarks. Around 25 activists of the ABVP carrying posters of the Ghatkopar (West) MLA in their hands gathered at Ghatkopar railway station in eastern Mumbai and blackened them.
Aniket Ohval, the Pradesh Mantri, Konkan Prant of ABVP, termed Kadam’s remark as “unfortunate and unforgivable”. “Kadam’s misogynistic remark cannot be ignored. We have asked the BJP, state Women Commission as well as Mumbai Police to take suitable action against the MLA. He doesn’t even have basic courtesy to apologise for his distasteful comments,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, at a Dahi Handi event, Kadam had told youngsters,”You can call me.. if you call me saying I have proposed a girl and need your help.. I will definitely help you.. I will call your parents and ask them…If they say they like that girl then… I will kidnap that girl and give her you.. now take my number.”
However, after facing flak from various quarters, Kadam expressed his apology on twitter. “A part of my address during a Janmashtami event is being spread as a video. I am not going into the details, as my respect for mothers and sisters is most important for me. Without any further clarification, I humbly apologise for what I said,” Kadam had said, issuing a public apology.
