New Delhi, July 21: Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Saturday said that he’s saddened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s use of language during his speech at the no-confidence motion debate in Parliament. He further called PM Modi a “gappi” and said that the religion teaches everyone to hug such men.
“Ye jo bhasha maine dekhi kal Lok Sabha mein, mujhe dukh laga. Pradhan Mantri Modi desh mein sabsa bada hai gappi, dharam hamein sikhata hai ki usko bhi laga do jhappi,” Kapil Sibal said, adding, “Isliye Rahul Ji ne unko jhappi di, kyoki hum kisi se nafrat nahin karte hain,” he said.
While many hailed PM Modi for setting an agenda ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, many criticised him for misleading the nation by lying to hide his party’s failures. The latter includes Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Hitting out at PM Modi after his speech during the no-confidence motion debate on Friday, Naidu said that the PM broke all his promises that he had made to the state. “The Centre now says that it (special status) can be granted only to northeastern and hilly states, but the government is misleading. The decision is entirely an executive decision,” he said.
“Because of the bifurcation, AP lost out on many things. So we had thought that we would need the support of a national party to get the state back into shape. The BJP had assured us that all promises made to AP in the bifurcation Act will be fulfilled…In the last four years, I came to Delhi 29 times to meet the prime minister but all my appeals went unheard,” he said.
While Congress president Rahul Gandhi termed PM Modi’s speech as “weak”, Sonia Gandhi said that it was an “old rhetoric”.
Referring to Rahul’s accusations that the PM cannot see eye-to-eye with him, Modi said, “You are ‘naamdaar’ (dynast), “I am ‘kaamdar’ (worker). I cannot dare to see eye-to-eye with you”. Referring to Rahul’s wink after hugging PM Modi, he said, “Today, the whole nation saw it on TV.”
