New Delhi, Aug 21: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday appointed Ahmed Patel as the treasurer of the party. He has replaced Motilal Vora who has been appointed as general secretary in-charge of administration. Gandhi has also appointed Anand Sharma as the new chairman of the party’s foreign cell. Patel has earlier also served the post of treasurer. Recently Rahul had reconstituted the Congress Working Committee with a blend of young and old leaders. He has dropped some senior faces which included Digvijaya Singh, Sushilkumar Shinde, and Janardan Dwivedi. However, A K Antony, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, Motilal Vora, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma and Kumari Selja were there in the committee. The new CWC includes 23 members, 19 permanent invitees, and 9 special invitees. Notably, this the first CWC formed by the Congress chief after assuming charge of the party.
The committee was dissolved prior to the election of the Congress president and the earlier panel was transformed into a steering committee till the party’s plenary session that concluded in March. The CWC, which acts as an advisory panel on all key decisions of the party, was not in place since the plenary session in March.
