New Delhi, August 18: The Congress party on Saturday revoked the suspension of senior party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar, who was suspended last year during the Gujarat Assembly elections.”Honourable Congress president has approved the recommendations of the Central disciplinary committee of AICC for revocation of suspension of Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar from the primary membership of the Congress party with immediate effect,”a statement issued by Congress general secretary Ashok Gehlot said.

On December 7, 2017, Aiyar was suspended from the primary membership of the party following his ‘neech’ remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Accusing PM Modi of playing “dirty politics”, Aiyar had called him a “neech aadmi (low life)”. Mujhko lagta hai ki ye aadmi bahut neech kisam ka aadmi hai, isme koi sabhyata nahi hai, or aise mauke par is kisam ki gandi rajniti karne ki kya avashyakta hai?” (This man is a low-life person. He has no culture, standard. What was the need to practise such dirty politics?),” Aiyar had said referring to PM Modi’s taunt targeting Rahul Gandhi.

While inaugurating the Ambedkar International Centre in the national capital last year, PM Modi had mocked Rahul Gandh over his comment that he was Shiv bhakt (devotee) and said some parties talked more of Baba Bhole (Lord Shiva) than Babasaheb.

“Jo rajnaetik dal Babasaheb ka naam leke vote maangte hain, unhe to shayad ye pata bhi nahin hoga. Khair unhe aaj kal Baba Saheb nahin, Baba bholey zara zyada yaad aa rahe hain (The parties which ask for votes in the name of Babasaheb, they don’t know…. Well these days not Baba Saheb, they are seeing Baba Bholey more),” PM Modi had said.
