Bengaluru, Jan 16: A policeman has been arrested in Tumkur district of Karnataka for allegedly raping a mentally challenged woman. The 50-year-old cop has been identified as ASI Ramesh who is accused of sexually abusing a 30-year-old mentally challenged woman in Tumkur. The police has also arrested the driver of the car in which the accuse cop raped the woman.

The accused Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ramesh has been suspended and taken into police custody. The arrest was made after the victim identified him as her rapist. According to a News 18 report, the victim had stepped out of her home without informing her family. The accused Ramesh was on night duty when he saw her alone. He promised to take her back home and allegedly raped her.

“We have also arrested the driver of the the car in which the ASI took the victim along. The police officer has been suspended and arrested as of now. The complaint was filed on Sunday,” IGP central range Karnataka, seemanth Kumar Singh was quoted as saying.
