New Delhi: Coronavirus continues to wreak havoc across the world as the number of people infected with deadly epidemic surpassed 100,000 globally. The outbreak has spread to 90 countries apart from China and has killed more than 3,400 people. The death toll includes the first death in the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Besides, 21 people on stranded US cruise ship test positive for COVID-19, US Vice President Mike Pence informed. In India, one more COVID-19 case was detected in the national capital yesterday. The 25-year-old man, who also travelled to Malaysia, has tested positive for COVID-19, taking the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the national capital to three. So far, 31 people have tested positive for coronavirus in India, according to the Union Health Ministry. The Delhi health department has also come up with a containment plan that includes preparing a buffer zone of five kilometres by the Delhi Geospatial Delhi Ltd around the cases reported so far, a bulletin said.

The Delhi government has also directed schools in the national capital to suspend morning assembly as a precautionary measure for coronavirus. The Directorate of Education (DoE) has also advised schools to withhold biometric attendance for staff till further orders.

“Do not hold school assembly. Also withhold biometric attendance for staff till further orders,” the DoE has said in a letter to principals of all government and private schools.

Earlier on Friday, Parliament also issued an advisory restricting gatherings and entry of visitors into its premises. “From next week, MPs from both houses will not be able to meet their visitors inside the parliament. MPs will also not be allowed to take their visitors on a parliament tour”, read the advisory.

In view of the several advisories issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI regarding precautions to be taken against the deadly Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) with a view to prevent the spread of infection among public. Members are hereby advised to take adequate preventive measures which may interalia include:

(a) Simple public health measures of hand and respiratory hygiene be practiced

(b) Large gathering within the precincts of Parliament House Estate may be avoided.

(c) Visitors, other than those, which are essential for official/operational reasons may be strictly restricted.

Besides, the Indian Army has also issued detailed instructions with respect to preparations and emergency response in tackling the COVID-19 virus.

“Local Military authorities will exercise suitable control to avoid/postpone all non-essential mass gatherings till the situation improves. Regular health information education & counseling activities to be carried out at all military stations”, the statement issued by Indian Army read.

It added,”Military hospitals to establish isolation wards and have separate OPDs for screening of symptomatic cases to prevent avoidable transmission. Service hospitals will work in synergy with local civil medical authorities and designated Indian Council of Medical Research labs”, the Indian Army stated.
