New Delhi: A doctor and nine paramedical staff of a government hospital in northeast Delhi’s Dilshad Garden on Monday tested positive for coronavirus, taking total number of its staffers affected by COVID-19 to 18. The development forced the Delhi government to seal the Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI). The hospital was shut down last week after a doctor, some of whose family members had returned from the UK last month, tested positive for coronavirus. Later, seven more healthcare personnel of the hospital, too, ended up testing positive for the infection.
Following yesterday’s development, at least 45 staff members have been quarantined. Samples of 19 patients at the hospital, too, as per reports, have been sent for COVID-19 tests.
Also on Monday, Wockhardt Hospital in Mumbai was declared a containment zone after 26 nurses and three doctors tested positive for COVID-19. On the same day, Jaslok Hospital, also in the city, too, was declared a containment zone after 12 staffers tested positive for coronavirus.
Earlier, more than 100 staff at the national capital’s famous Sir Ganga Ram Hospital were quarantined, after two patients there returned positive result in their respective second tests for the virus.
Delhi has thus far recorded over 500 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with majority of them being connected to the Tablighi Jamaat congregation held last month.
