New Delhi: The total number of coronavirus cases in India reached 1,071, as Delhi witnessed spike of 23 cases in a single day. Of the total 1,024, 901 are active cases, 95 people have recovered from the disease and 27 have lost their lives, while one patient migrated to another country. To check community transmission of the virus by migrant workers, the Narendra Modi-led government ordered the sealing of all state and district borders. On the other hand, the number of coronavirus cases around the world crossed the 700,000 mark, with the US comprising over a seventh of them, while the death toll crossed the 33,500 mark, with Italy (10,779) and Spain (6,606) accounting for over half of them, as the Johns Hopkins University’s Coronavirus Resource Centre. Of the 704,095 total cases, the US led with 132,637 and was followed by Italy with 97, 689 cases, China with 82,122, Spain with 78,799, Germany with 60,659 and Iran with 38,309.
Meanwhile, Anthony Fauci, one of the leading health experts on the task force team, warned that the US could see 100,000 to 200,000 deaths due to the contagious disease.
Following this, US President Donald Trump said that the national social distancing guidelines aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus will be extended to April 30.
“We will be extending our guidelines to April 30, to slow the spread. On Tuesday, we will be finalizing these plans and providing a summary of our findings, supporting data and strategy to the American people,” Trump said at a White House Coronavirus Task Force news briefing held on Sunday at the White House Rose Garden.
