Coronavirus in India LIVE Updates: As the country recorded its ninth death due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, thirty states and Union territories declared a complete lockdown. The 30 states imposing complete lockdown include capital Delhi, Maharashtra, Bihar, Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Gujarat, Karnataka among others. Three states — Uttar Pradesh (India’s most populous state), Madhya Pradesh and Odisha have imposed partial lockdown in certain areas. Moreover, another union territory — Lakshwadweep has also imposed closure of some activities in its area. Till now, Sikkim and Mizoram are the only two states who haven’t imposed any restrictions. Earlier on Monday, PM Modi had urged people to take the lockdown seriously. “Many people are still not taking the lockdown seriously. Please save yourself, save your family, follow the instructions seriously. I request state governments to ensure rules and laws are followed.”
The state governments have also been asked to take legal action against those found violating lockdown orders.
Meanwhile, 75 people across the country have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 the last 24 hours, Following this the number of confirmed cases in India rose to 471.
Of the total 471, 41 are foreign nationals and nine are the casualties. The deaths were reported from Gujarat, Bihar, Karnataka, Delhi, Maharashtra, Punjab, Bengal and Himachal Pradesh.
