New Delhi: After the Central and Western Railway ordered the withdrawal of woollen blankets and curtains in AC coaches, the Southern Railway has followed suit. It has requested the passengers to cooperate and bring their own blankets if necessary. “Southern Railways has withdrawn supply of woollen blankets to AC coach passengers & has commenced removal of curtains in all classes of AC coaches. Passengers are requested to cooperate & bring their blankets if necessary or may ask from coach attendant,” the Southern Railways said in a statement. Earlier in the day, the Central Railway has also instructed its personnel to intensively clean coach fittings as they are touched by thousands of passengers every day. These fittings include grab handles, door handles, door latches, entry door handles, seat guard, snack trays, window glass, a window grill, bottle holders, upper berth climbing stairs, electrical switches, charge points, etc. They will be cleaned with disinfectants, an official said. Meanwhile, India has reported a total of 107 cases of Coronavirus infection so far.
