The incident took place on Friday evening when the man, who is believed to have a history of mental illness, came out of his house all of a sudden, took off his clothes and began running in the street. Shocked family members tried to get hold him but he managed to bite the woman in her neck.

She was sitting outside her house when the incident took place and was immediately rushed to a hospital where she died on Saturday.

The accused, who was, meanwhile, overpowered by his family members, is a resident of Kamanayakkanpatti and had returned from Sri Lanka recently. He was under home quarantine as directed by health authorities as per the protocol for foreign returnees to check coronavirus spread.

He was handed over to the police, who later arrested him. A probe is currently on in the case.
