New Delhi: Total cases from the Coronavirus pandemic in India has risen to 169, the Health Ministry said on Thursday. From Telangana, eight Covid-19 positive cases, including seven Indonesians, were reported on Wednesday, taking the total number of cases in the state to 13.

To contain the spread of the virus, the government has taken a number of measures which include encouraging employees to work from home, postponing exams across the country and imposing travel curbs. Union health minister Harsh Vardhan has reviewed the preparedness of hospitals in terms of availability of testing kits, personal protective equipment, medicines and isolation wards.

Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation today on the coronavirus outbreak and ways to contain it.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from the new virus is 8000, a report by news agency AFP said. Total coronavirus cases across the world have surpassed 200,000.
