COVID-19 cases in India: The Union Health Ministry reported 275 active infections across India as of May 25, 2025. As per the health official, the majority of these cases are mild and are controlled through home officials. While no major breakout has been reported, health authorities have urged citizens to remain alert. As per the data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a gradual spike in active COVID-19 cases across many states between May 12 and May 19. Kerala has been recorded to have the highest cases, with 95 new active cases. Tamil Nadu is in the second slot with 66 cases, and Maharashtra is in third place with 56 cases. Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have reported two new COVID-19 variants- NB. 1.8.1 and LF.7. Though neither of them has been termed as a variant of concern, both are being closely studied by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the WHO.

Bihar on Monday registered the state’s first Covid-19 case of the current wave as a 31-year-old man from Patna tested positive for the infection, a senior health official said.
Four more people tested positive for Covid-19 in West Bengal, taking the count of active cases to 11, a health department official said on Monday.
A 84-year-old-man with severe comorbidities has died in Bengaluru and his Covid-19 test results came positive on Saturday, said health officials. The man with severe comorbidities got admitted to a private hospital in Whitefield, Bengaluru, on May 13 and died on May 17.
With fresh Covid-19 cases being reported in the state, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday said the government is taking all the necessary precautionary measures, including testing the risky cases.
Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi on Sunday registered the state’s first COVID-19 case of the current wave as a person who had recently returned from Mumbai tested positive for the infection, a senior health official said.
