New Delhi, April 6: Uma Singh, the wife of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Commanding Officer Chetan Cheeta has come out against Nationalist Congress chief Farooq Abdullah for saying stone pelters were those fighting for the nation. Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Uma Singh said, “If Mr Farooq Abdullah says stone pelters are nationalists, then we need to ponder over who are anti-nationals. Stone pelters have been the biggest hurdle for our armed forces in securing the place (Kashmir).

Singh’s comments come a day after Abdullah defended stone pelters saying, “They (stone pelters) will risk starvation but will throw stones for the nation that’s what we need to understand.” “I want to tell Modi sahab that tourism is our life no doubt about that but a stone pelter has nothing to do with tourism,” he added.

Chetan Cheeta was discharged from AIIMS on Wednesday, days after battling for life in the hospital. He was in deep coma after he was hit by nine bullets on February 14 and woke up from comatose on Wednesday, leaving everyone around him pleasantly surprised. It was for the first time since February 14 that Cheeta spoke on April 5. Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju met Cheeta on Wednesday and said it was miraculous to see him talk. “He (Chetan Cheeta) is doing very fine. It’s miraculous. When he was brought from Srinagar, it was difficult to believe that he’ll ever talk. I am feeling proud after meeting him,” Rijiju said.

Chetan Cheeta was injured on February 14 in a gunbattle between a joint team of CRPF, Army and Jammu and Kahsmir Police and three suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists in the Parraypora village in Bandipora district’s Hajin area. He took nine bullets on his body and was admitted to a military hospital in Srinagar. He was later shifted to the AIIMS critical care unit with multiple wounds on his head, eyes and stomach. He was put on ventilator and continued to be critical for days. On March 16, Cheeta was shifted to the normal ward and was also taken off the ventilator, and on Wednesday, when he woke up from comatose, he was discharged.
