New Delhi: Amid the extension of detention of the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti, police officials on Sunday said that her description as ‘daddy’s girl’ is not among the 12 grounds for her arrest under the Public Safety Act (PSA), 1978.

The seven-page PSA order served on the 60-year-old PDP chief, the daughter of party founder and former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, stated 12 grounds for her detention under the ‘Public Order’ segment of the stringent law of Jammu and Kashmir.

In the dossier, the police had mentioned Mufti’s “dangerous and insidious mechanization and usurping profile and nature by the masses as ‘Daddy’s girl’ and ‘Kota Rani’, a medieval period queen of Kashmir who rose to power by virtue of intrigues and poisoning her opponents” as the reason for her detention.

However, the district magistrate, who is the executive officer, said that the dossier submitted did not include this as a reason in the detention order against her under the PSA.

In the run-up to the abrogation of Article 370, the former J&K CM on August 5 had tweeted, “That the abrogation of Article 370 has not just made accession null and void, and also reduces India to an occupation force in J&K.”

Notably, the document has referred to 12-odd tweets of Mufti to justify her (Mufti) PSA detention.

On February 6, barely a few hours before their preventive detention was to end, former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti were booked under this act, after serving detention for nearly 6 months. Now, former IAS officer Shah Faesal has also been booked under the same act. His arrest comes a day following the Supreme Court’s notice to the J&K administration seeking justification of their detention.
