Ahmedabad, Dec 5: The Dangs Assembly Constituency will go to polls in the first phase of Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 on December 9. The Dangs Vidhan Sabha seat falls under the Dangs district. It is a tribal-dominated area. The constituency is seeing an interesting contest between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. The NCP is also contesting election from the Dangs seat.
Dangs has been a Congress stronghold for years, except for 2007, when the BJP had won the polls. In 2012, Congress’s Mangalbhai Gangajibhai Gavit had defeated BJP’s Vijaybhai Rameshbhai Patel by just about 1,800 votes. This election again, the two will be contesting against each other. Gujarat will go to polls in two phases. Voting for the first phase will take place on December 9 while voting for the second phase will take place on December 14. Counting of votes will take place on December 18 along with results for Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.
Gujarat has a total of 50.25 lakh electorate, including 19 lakh women and 14 transgenders, who will decide the fate of candidates.
